STEP 1

Do students joining the programme/course have sufficient underpinning knowledge and does the provider have a transparent process for assessing this? You need to tell us the level of prior knowledge and skills required by students joining the programme and how you will assess it:

Does the programme provide successful students with a sufficient knowledge to enable them to effectively and safely work with people living with cancer?

You need to show how the programme equips the students to meet the professional standards of the RoCSP. If the course meets only a subset, you will need to identify other programmes which together enable the student to gain a complete knowledge set.

Does the programme provide successful students with the necessary skills to enable them to effectively and safely work with people living with cancer?

STEP 3

Does the programme/course enable students to apply their learning to their professional practice in the workplace?

You need to show how the programme equips the students to apply their learning to their professional practice and change behaviours.

Do the teaching team have sufficient capacity capability to deliver an effective learning experience?

You need to demonstrate the teaching team’s experience and qualifications in teaching and learning and how you will ensure their competency and availability.

STEP 4

Can the programme team demonstrate how they will assure that the successful students have met the prescribed learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills and behaviours?

You need to design an effective assessment strategy which can show that your successful students meet the professional standards of the RoCSP. It is not sufficient to only test knowledge; you must show how your students also have the right skills and behave appropriately.

If the course meets only a subset, you will need to identify other programmes with similarly effective assessment strategies that demonstrate that together the students meet the full professional standards of the RoCSP.

Is the programme/course subject to effective review by established procedures at both an appropriate level and is it subject to external review both routinely and at periodic intervals?

The RoCSP will require an annual report and review the accreditation at a three yearly interval. However, we expect accredited courses to be able to demonstrate continuous improvement through an ongoing process of review and quality assurance.

STEP 5

Does the programme/course progressively develop a student’s ability to work as an individual, as part of a team and effectively use a range of transferable skills?

Transferable skills such as communication skills, team working and planning are key to supporting the professional practice of cancer recovery professionals. You will need to demonstrate that you have effectively assessed the transferable skill needs of students and then show how you will meet those needs.

Do the students have access to appropriate physical resources (e.g fitness equipment, library and other information facilities, IT facilities) as required by the programme?

The infrastructure requirements are entirely dependent upon the nature of the programme. You will need to demonstrate that you have effectively assessed the needs of students and then show how you will meet those needs.
